The article I had planned for this month dealt with Extracurricular Activities. When I read it, I realized, I had to “fix it”, in order to address our current situation. I started to make notes of how my own life had changed, basically paying attention to small things I had learned. This is called extrapolating your thoughts: taking your thought to another level or dimension. I realized how I had to reorganize my house so that each member of the family had their own work station and privacy; I amended my work in order for it to fit an online platform; I learned how to use zoom; and on a more personal level, I had to polish up my cooking skills (including learning how to make rice).
So how do these thoughts relate to Extracurricular Activities and college applications? Simple: extrapolate your thoughts. Take one of the activities you were doing before the quarantine period and take it to another level: find a way to teach what you know online; create a social platform to generate ideas; do research. You can also think about trying out new activities like cooking or painting; learn about coding; try out new workout routines, read books that were on your to do list, or practically anything that peaks your interest.
Here are some examples I LOVED: One of my students is an interior designer and her Insta post on how to offer her services online is awesome; another one started sharing on a new Insta account her art work that had been neglected for years; I have also seen creative new approaches to firing up entrepreneurial ventures offering customers practical ways to help students doing online work and managing their time effectively.
Think about the following:
How can you share with others what you know or have learned?
Can you motivate others with your words? Thoughts? Work? Can you shine a light on their day?
Can you extend the thought of something you already know or are doing?
Can you learn something new?
Have you extended your reading? Have you extended your meditations? Are you adding to what you already know?
I honestly have to say I have enjoyed this time at home with my family to see life in a new perspective. I enjoy having a full house and I am grateful every day for the little blessings I find along the way.
