I always ask my children: “What good is our knowledge if it stays just within us?” We are meant to be motivators of change; we are meant to be citizens of a brighter tomorrow that helps create a new way of living.
This year, I want to start my own way of giving back to those who are seeking studying abroad, but lack the means to do so.
Recently, I read an article in the New York Times that resonates with my belief of receiving by giving. The article, “Michael Bloomberg: Why I’m Giving $1.8 Billion for College Financial Aid”, highlights the need for us to give back to our communities, in this case hoping to open the doors for higher education to those who need it the most. Bloomberg states, “Denying students entry to a college based on their ability to pay undermines equal opportunity. It perpetuates intergenerational poverty. And it strikes at the heart of the American dream: the idea that every person, from every community, has the chance to rise based on merit.” Michael Bloomberg’s donations have embraced many students and allowed them to soar high and achieve their dreams.
Let us embrace these acts of kindness and find ways in which we can all give back to our communities in order to create a better world to live in.
